Blessed Geza expressed surprise that Kuda Tagwirei is wealthier than Strive Masiyiwa, seemingly overlooking the fact that Kuda supplies over 1.6 billion liters of fuel to Zimbabwe annually. He also owns investment companies that control banks and insurance firms β institutions that finance Masiyiwaβs ventures and support the broader economy.
For over fifteen years, Sakunda Holdings has been Zimbabweβs top revenue earner, generating more than $2 billion β significantly more than the companies in which Masiyiwa holds partial shares. Kuda previously owned major gold, platinum, and chrome mines and smelters, one of which brought in around $200 million in annual revenue and controlled over 2 million tons of gold. Meanwhile, Great Dyke Investments, in which he was involved before selling his share to Mutapa Investment Fund, controls platinum reserves valued at over $50 billion.
Strive Masiyiwaβs wealth largely comes from stock market valuations β βpaper wealthβ β whereas Kuda Tagwirei's wealth is rooted in real cashflow from high revenue earning privately owned companies controlled by him and his wife. Ironically, some of the largest retail chains that Geza was appealing to for free food during the failed stay-away protests are owned by Kudaβs investment companies.
Kuda Tagwirei is a cornerstone of Zimbabweβs economy. Anyone who attempts to manage the economy without him is destined to fail. Musatambe vakomana (Donβt play games, gentlemen).
